Kaufer to Host Community Shredding Day on May 14
Shredding sensitive documents can help protect residents against identity theft
LUZERNE – In an effort to help local residents protect themselves against identity theft, state Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) will host a Shredding Day for residents of the 120th Legislative District on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Side Career and Technical Center, where residents can easily dispose of documents and mail with personal and sensitive information.
“Shredding junk mail and other documents with personal and financial information is one important way people can protect themselves against identity theft,” Kaufer said. “This event gives local families an opportunity to take action to protect themselves against identity theft.”
West Side Career and Technical Center is located at 75 Evans St., in Pringle.
Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles upon arrival, where Kaufer or a member of his staff will be of assistance. Each vehicle will be limited to shredding three copy-paper-sized boxes of paper.
In addition to papers, residents also may dispose of faded and worn flags, prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, hearing aids, and working cell phones and chargers.
Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce’s office will once again be available to collect unused and unwanted prescription medications.
There is no fee associated with this event; however, those who attend are asked to bring a canned food item to donate to local food pantries. No expired food items will be accepted.
For more information about this outreach, or any other state-related issue, contact Kaufer’s district office in Luzerne located at 161 Main St., by calling 570-283-1001. Information can also be found online at
