Kaufer Announces More than $3 Million in Local Grants
LUZERNE – Local state Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) today announced more than $3 million in state grants have been approved for projects in the 120th Legislative District. The money for the projects comes through a state grant program funded with gaming revenue.
“These grants will provide an infusion of money into our local economy at a time when many families are struggling to make ends meet,” Kaufer said. “These grants will be used to invest in our communities and spur economic activity in our county and region.”
The grants include:
•
$500,000 to help the Wyoming Area Regional Police Force convert individual municipal police forces into one regional force and purchase a new building and equipment for the regional operation.
•
$350,000 for roadway improvements along Second Street from Wyoming Avenue to Susquehanna Avenue, on Third Street from Monument Avenue to Susquehanna Avenue, and along Ninth Street from Wyoming Avenue to Susquehanna Avenue in Wyoming Borough.
•
$286,000 for the purchase of police protective gear and a computer system for the West Side Council of Governments and its 11 municipalities.
•
$243,000 to replace the sanitary sewer line and storm sewer line along Schooley Avenue and its intersection with Wyoming Avenue in Exeter Borough.
•
$240,000 for a parking lot adjacent to the Kingston Municipal Building.
•
$200,000 to renovate the Center Street Park in Kingston Township by adding parking for disabled visitors, improving the walking path, and creating a dog park, hiking trail and sensory garden.
•
$200,000 for comprehensive renovations to the Swoyersville Borough Municipal Building, including a new heating and air conditioning system, plumbing and electrical work, repairing the roof and making the building compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
•
$200,000 to construct a 1,600-square-foot one-story addition to the West Wyoming Borough Municipal Building and renovate the existing building with ADA-compliant bathrooms and an elevator, implement energy efficiency upgrades, improve the plumbing and electrical systems, and install a new heating and air conditioning system.
•
$163,000 for new police equipment in Dallas Township.
•
$160,000 for parking lot improvements and road paving projects in Pittston Borough.
•
$150,000 to renovate a building in West Pittston Borough to serve as a public library.
•
$75,000 to rehabilitate the Courtdale Borough building’s parking lot and curbs.
•
$70,000 to purchase a skid steer for Pringle Borough’s Public Works Department.
•
$50,000 to replace a 940-foot sanitary sewer line along Meyers Street in Edwardsville Borough.
•
$50,000 for five murals on five commercial buildings along Route 11 in Kingston Borough and Exeter Borough.
•
$40,000 for Exeter Township to purchase a new truck.
•
$25,000 to purchase police safety equipment – including trauma aid kits, tasers and computers – for the Forty Fort Borough Police Department.
The funding was approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
