LUZERNE COUNTY – Reps. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) and Gerald Mullery (D-Luzerne) and Sens. John Yudichak (D- Carbon/Luzerne) and Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne/Pike/Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) will host Luzerne County seniors at their annual Luzerne County Senior Expo on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wyoming Valley Mall, 29 Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre.

The event will feature vendors from local, state and federal agencies who will answer questions and provide useful information about programs and services available to seniors. In addition, there will be free refreshments, giveaways and free health screenings. Flu shots will also be available at no cost with an insurance card.

Seniors will also find information related to government services, Social Security, health care, insurance, legal issues, fraud protection, financial concerns, and exercise and nutrition information.

“In its eighth year, the Luzerne County Senior Expo allows our local senior citizens to learn about all the local, state and federal programs and resources available to older Pennsylvanians in one convenient location,” said Yudichak. “Every year, I look forward to helping our senior citizens obtain access to statewide programs such as the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program or the PACE program which are so beneficial to our older residents.”

“Every year this expo gets bigger as we try to accommodate the increased interest our seniors have shown in having access to so many great programs, agencies, businesses and organizations in one location. I am glad we are able to help our seniors obtain the information they are looking for,” said Baker.

“Area seniors and their caregivers are encouraged to attend our senior expo as it provides valuable information on the programs and services they can take advantage of in the Commonwealth,” said Kaufer. “It is important that our elderly population remains educated and informed on their options as they enter their next stage in life.”

“I enjoy getting to talk to so many of our seniors in Luzerne County at this event, and to hear the issues that mean the most to them,” said Mullery. “The event offers the convenience of having a surplus of valuable information in one place where our seniors can be educated on goods and services available to them from federal, state and local agencies.”

The Luzerne County Transportation Authority is offering bus service to the expo from area senior centers and high-rise apartment buildings. If seniors are interested in this service, please call 570-288-9356.

The event is free and open to the public for seniors in Luzerne County. For more information, please contact Kaufer’s office at 570-283-1001; Baker’s office at 570-675-3931; Mullery’s office at 570-740-7031 or Yudichak’s office at 570-740-2434.
