HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) and Sen. John Yudichak (I-Carbon/Luzerne) announced that Kaufer’s legislation (House Bill 12) honoring former PennDOT employee George Dennis Jr. was passed unanimously by the Senate and now heads to the governor’s desk for approval.

On Feb. 11, 1972, George Dennis Jr. was killed while at work for The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

“Our community was blessed in having such a dedicated and hard-working man like George Dennis Jr.,” said Kaufer. “The Dennis family has always been a well-known family through their heavy involvement in public service. George’s death was a loss that was truly felt by all in our area. To pay homage to the legacy of Mr. Dennis and his family I am pleased to share that we are one step closer to having a portion of State Route 1021 dedicated in his honor thanks to the support of my House and Senate colleagues. I urge the governor to please sign this bill into law.”

In honor of Dennis, Bridge Key 46475, carrying State Route 1021 over the Susquehanna River in Wyoming Borough, Luzerne County, will be designated as the George J. Dennis Jr. Memorial Bridge.

“George Dennis Jr. was a leader in the community of West Wyoming and he was a dedicated PennDOT employee who died in the line of duty,” said Yudichak. “I am pleased to join with Rep. Kaufer in calling on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to honor the life of George Dennis Jr. with this fitting and lasting memorial.”
