LUZERNE – Local state Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) today announced approximately $700,000 has been awarded to four local projects through a state grant program that helps local communities pay for transportation infrastructure improvements.
“These dollars are an investment in our communities and the people who live in them,” Kaufer said. “These projects will provide work for local employees and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.”
The projects were approved Friday by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) and will be funded through the authority’s multimodal transportation fund program.
Local projects include:
•
$250,000 to Courtdale Borough to help repave 23 roads totaling approximately 23,084 linear feet in the borough.
•
$200,000 to Exeter Borough for street improvements and pedestrian crossway improvements along Susquehanna Avenue from Taylor Street to Barber Street.
•
$150,000 to Kingston Borough to improve West Union Street by installing new sidewalks and curbs, new mast arms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and new energy efficient streetlights while also replacing oversized, severely decayed and dead trees with 56 new ones.
•
$100,000 to West Pittstown Borough to make curb and sidewalk improvements along Exeter Avenue from Wilkern Street to Parke Street and also restoring lawn areas and planting new trees.
Funding for the project is being provided through the CFA Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.
The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to administer Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages. The CFA holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. The CFA consists of seven board members, including four legislative appointees and the secretaries of the Department of Community and Economic Development, the Office of the Budget, and Department of Banking and Securities.
